A number of leading GA organisational representatives, at his request, met with Grant Shapps, Conservative Party Co-Chairman and also a keen GA pilot, at the Cabinet Office at end of March (including myself on behalf of both General Aviation Alliance and The Royal Aero Club of UK). The initiative was also supported by the Parliament Aviators Group (PAG) and notably Sir Gerald Howarth a keen supporter of GA interests.

The response to the earlier “red tape challenge” consultation in this area was extremely poor. Grant was keen to reinvigorate that and with a specific GA emphasis, look at more detail and also a focus on sustainability for the sector. As he says he wishes to see a flourishing aviation sector that includes GA. This is detailed in his letter and MP statement to the general Aviation Sector.

Please respond to this. As Grant says in his letter: ”Ideally, every last person involved in general aviation will know that this Red Tape Challenge is taking place.  ….  I need your help to ensure this becomes a reality.”

The General Aviation theme will go live for comments on the Red Tape Challenge website for five weeks from 11 April to 15 May 2013, at http://www.redtapechallenge.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/home/index/.
