Alderney Airfield

All three runways at Alderney Airport are expected to be back in full operational use by mid-June. The long grass runway, 32/14, which was closed in December 2013, is now back in use following repairs and improved drainage, and the shorter 21/03, also closed in late 2013, should be reinstated in June following similar remedial work.

Problems with the main (tarmac) runway, 26/08 which had its operational length reduced to 799m earlier this year, have also been resolved and it is now back to its full 877m.

This is good news for members looking for a different destination as Alderney is a great place to fly into and stay for a day, or a few days. Of the three main Channel Islands, it is the quietest to fly into and the island itself is offers a good choice of hotels and restaurants, pleasant walks and sea views, and a timeless atmosphere in which to rest and unwind. Cheap fuel too!
