Sonex CEO Jeremy Monnett was killed on Tuesday along with Sonex assembly mechanic Mike Clark in an accident involving the prototype Sonex Sport Acro. The aircraft crashed at the East end of Wittman Regional Airport’s runway 9; the cause of the accident remains unknown pending investigation by the FAA, NTSB and Sonex Aircraft.

The Sport Acro is a variant of the standard Sonex, the major difference being the fitting of longer span ailerons and correspondingly shorter flaps. The aircraft was fitted with Sonex’ 100hp AeroVee turbo and had been flying since 2007. It recently completed a return trip to Florida for the Sebring and Sun n Fun events.
