John Ratcliffe
CEng FRAeS CMgr FCMI

A self-confessed ‘aircraft nut’ from an early age, John joined the RAF in 1991 as an Airframe Technician before commissioning as an Aero Systems Engineer Officer in 1997.  During his 23 years of service, he worked on various aircraft types including Harrier, Tristar, C-130, Chinook, Lynx, HS125 and BAe 146 as well as deploying on a number of operational tours around the Middle East.  After leaving the RAF in 2014, one of his roles was as the Chief Engineer on 32 (The Royal) Squadron, where he provided the VVIP operation for the Royal Family and the UK Government on the BAe 146.

John joined the LAA as the Engineering Director in August 2021, where his role provides technical and managerial leadership to the HQ-based airworthiness and design engineers, the Chief Inspector and the LAA Inspectors.  His aim is to improve processes and standards, develop a better level of service to the LAA membership, and to provide director-level technical expertise to the CEO and the Board.
