Manchester

Deadline 30th January 2009

NATS proposes to change the boundaries of the Manchester CTR to give some airspace back to Class G.  This would:

Change the Low Level Route and Barton Airspace to Class G

Raise the upper level of the Low Level Route by 50 ft

Add a Class G fillet of airspace to the Low Level Route south west of Barton

Add a Class G fillet of airspace along the south-east edge of the CTR

Details and a map can be found here.

The LAA supports this change but we think it can be taken further.  In particular:

The upper limit of the Low Level Route may be able to be increased increasing safety for VFR aircraft, occupants and people on the ground.

The Liverpool CTR to the south-west of the Route is not used for public transport flights and may be able to be released back to class G airspace to make congested areas easier to avoid and the route easier to fly and navigate.

The boundary of the Manchester CTR to the south and south east may be able to be changed to give back some more class G airspace.

The LAA draft response is here with more detail of the issues.

If you have any comments on the draft, please send them to can@laa.uk.com and if you are able to support the LAA in this, please respond to the consultation as set out in the NATS document.

Their address for comments is egcc.acp@nats.co.uk and the deadline is 30 Jan 09.
