In June 2014 a new company called Fly-Llanbedr took over the running of the airfield, which had been closed for 10 years. The intention is to be open to general aviation aircraft. Work is still on going to get the usual expected facilities open, but those who have been there already, are saying what a great location it is, with excellent runways, an easy walk to the beach and a local pub that is close by.

Opened in 1941 as part of Fighter Command, target towing took place. In more recent times, the base became well known as the operating base for brightly coloured yellow and red pilotless target drones (known as the Jindivik).

Located within Snowdonia National Park, the area is a great place to fly and see great scenery, as well as use as a base for touring and holidays.
